The Turkish hunting license, as issued in 1959, was a trifold item. It consisted of the cover as shown, plus 4 printed sides. The original Turkish is in black text with English translation by Rolland Rimar in red text. If anybody finds errors in translation, please email me with the corrected version.

Kara Aviligi Kanunu General Hunting Proclamation

(Her avcinin bilmesi gereken muhim maddeler) ( All hunters should familiarize themselves with the below listed paragraphs pertaining to hunting specific listed species.)

Madde 2- Av hayvanlari uc gruba ayrilmistir - Paragraph 2- Hunting species separated in three groups

I - Her vakit avlanabilenler - Unprotected species can be hunted year around;

A) Memelilerden: - Mammals: Vasak - Lynx, Kurt, - Wolf - Cakal - Jackal
Yaban domuzu - Wild Boar, Pars - Leopard, Sirtlan - Hyena, Kaplan - Tiger )
B) Kuslardan - Birds, (Kargalar - Crows )
C) Yerde surunenlerden: - Crawling species: (Yilanlar - Snakes, Kaplumbagalar - Turtles)

II - Belli edilen zamanlarda avlanabilenler: - Can be hunted during the proclaimed hunting seasons:

A) Memelilerden: Mammals: yaban kedisi - wild cat, zerdeva - pine marten, kokarca - skunk, sincap - squirrel,samsar - marten, susamuru - otter, ceylan - gazelle, gelincik - weasel, porsuk - badger, kunduz - beaver, tavsan - rabbit, tilki - fox, karaca - deer, dagkecisi - mountain goat, ayi - bear.

B) Kuslardan: - Birds Keklik - partridge, yabani horoz - wild rooster, erkek sulun - male pheasant, tavus famililyasi - peafowl families, cil - hazel grouse, bildircim familiyasi - quail (all species), yaban ordegi - wild duck (all species), sariasma - - ???, yaban kazi - wild geese, kugu kusu - swan, culluk - woodcock, turna - crane, toy - bustard, kuzgun - raven, bataklik kuslari - all swamp or shorebird species.

III Avlanmasi yasak olanlar: - protected species:

A) Memelilerden - Mammals
Geyik - stag, dagkoyunu - mountain sheep,
dagkecisi yavrusu -new born or young mountain goat,
karaca yavrusu - newborn or young deer, yarasa - bats, kirpi - hedgehog. B) Kuslardan - Birds
Turac - francolin, ehli kumrular - doves (all species), kerkenez - kestrel,
calikusu - wren, guguk - cuckoo, agackakan - woodpecker, cobanaldatan - nighjar, disi sulun - female pheasant, yabantavugu - prairie chicken, bulbul familiyasi - nightingale's all species - (song birds), cekirge kusu - ???, kirlagic - swallow, leylek - stork, puhu - eagle, baykus - owl, sigircik - starling

Madde 3: - Paragraph 3:
16 nci maaddede yazili av komisyonlari yakarili maddede adi gecmeyen
hayvanlarin avlanip avlanilmmasina karar vermak salahiyetini haizdir -
The 16th paragraph of the Hunting Regulation give the sole responsibility to the Hunting Commission to determine if all other species not above listed can be hunted, or not hunted.

Madde 4: Paragraph 4:
Belli edilmis zamanlarda acvlanilan hayvanlarin butunTurkiye icinde Nisan, Mayis, Haziran ve Temmuz avlanilmasi, yasaktir
The closed season for protected game species hunted in Turkey is, April, May,June, July. and August. During this period it is forbidden to hunt any listed protected species.
16 nci maddede yazili av komisyonlari bu muddet harincinde dahi
avlanilmagi menedebilir, ve memnu saydigi zamanlari belli ederek gununden evel ilan eder.
Per 16th paragraph the game commission will post any change of hunting regulation by proclamation prior to the hunting seasons.
